When the vintage season returns every year, jazz gets on top in the Douro region and Trás-os-Montes province. This is a result of the connection established since 2004 between Douro Jazz International Festival and the oldest demarcated wine region in the world.
The sixth edition of Douro Jazz International Festival takes place at six towns in the North of Portugal. 66 shows will happen in Vila Real, Régua, Chaves, Bragança, Lamego and S. João da Pesqueira.
Featuring this year: Frank Gambale (Australia); Santos/Melo featuring Paulo Braga (Portugal/Brazil); Les Zauto Stompers (France); Drugstore Cowboy Quartet (England); Johannes Krieger's Chibanga Groove (Germany); Jabardixie (Portugal); Groove 4tet (Portugal); Amarelo Manga (Brazil); and Orquestra do Norte featuring Michel Lethiec (Portugal/France).
As always, the festival's programme includes a range of complementary activities, trying to cross and consolidate different audiences: two photography exhibitions, a fair of cultural objects, and promotion actions on Douro's wine (the festival has its own wine, the Douro Jazz Wine, which in a way tells the festival's history).
