When the vintage season returns every year, jazz gets on top in the Douro region and Trás-os-Montes province. This is a result of the connection established since 2004 between Douro Jazz International Festival and the oldest demarcated wine region in the world.
The fifth edition of Douro Jazz International Festival takes place at six towns in the North of Portugal. 52 shows will happen in Vila Real, Régua, Chaves, Bragança, Lamego and S. João da Pesqueira.
Featuring this year: Vicente Amigo (Spain); Christian Brewer/Alex Garnett Quintet (UK); Andy McKee and Dan LaVoie (EUA); Dixie Train (Italy); Quarteto Sofia Ribeiro (Portugal); Quarteto Saffron (Spain); Fátima Serro/Paulo Gomes Quarteto (Portugal); Proyecto Entrecuerdas (Spain); Quarteto Samuel Quinto (Brazil); and Cottas Club Jazz Band (Portugal).
As in the preceding editions, the festival's programme includes a range of complementary activities, trying to cross and consolidate different audiences: a guitar workshop, a fair of cultural objects, a photography exhibition ("Douro Jazz retrospective"), and promotion actions on Douro's wine (the festival has its own wine, the Douro Jazz Wine, which somehow tells the festival history).
